Stop the device fire drill
Agents come and go, and their devices churn with them. Retire the machines you’re done with through free ITAD pickup, with every drive wiped. Keep the rest working with device lifecycle management for work-at-home (WAH) agents, so a machine that comes back goes back out ready for the next hire.

Turn device churn into a win
IT leaders in call centers and BPOs face the same challenge every day. Devices are always coming and going as agents join, leave or work from home. Keeping up with that churn can feel like putting out fires, and old hardware starts to look like nothing but a threat to security, compliance, budgets and sustainability goals.
What if old devices could protect your company, give value back and help meet your environmental goals, without extra hassle?
One missed step, like a drive that never got wiped, can mean a data leak, a failed audit or legal trouble. Mishandled equipment also wastes value and puts your reputation at risk with customers. This guide shows how to go from chaos to confidence with your old IT hardware.
Why ad-hoc device disposal breaks
Old laptops pile up in a closet, equipment goes home with employees and never comes back, or a recycler gets picked at random. That leaves the door open:
- Data risk. Data left on a device can leak if it isn’t wiped properly.
- Audit risk. Without clear records, you can’t show what happened to each machine.
- Lost hardware. Devices go missing or end up in the wrong hands.
- Reputation risk. Customers and partners watch how companies handle their old electronics.
If you handle card payments under PCI DSS, or health information under HIPAA, the rules expect you to show that customer data was destroyed. The fix is a better process, one that saves money, avoids headaches and turns old IT from a loss into a win.
Build security in at every stage
The device lifecycle starts long before a machine leaves your building. Map the path of each device:
- Who uses it?
- Where does it travel?
- How is it tracked?
A detailed inventory from day one means that when it’s time to retire a device, you know exactly where it is and who has it. The most important step is data destruction: making sure the information is gone for good. Here’s what we provide:
- Windows and Apple drives wiped in-house at our Florence, Kentucky facility, following NIST SP 800‑88
- Damaged drives are crushed or shredded instead
- A Certificate of Destruction for each batch of Windows and Apple devices, available on request
Keep your records in one place: your inventory, the signed bill of lading and pallet count from pickup, the summary report of devices processed, and the certificate. When someone asks, you can show how every retirement was handled.
From cost center to value back
Replacing hardware usually looks like a cost that grows with your headcount. It doesn’t have to be all cost. Not every retired laptop is ready for the trash: many can be refurbished and put back to work.
- Assess what’s left. Each device is tested on its own. Devices that still carry value can earn money back, as a credit or a check.
- Wipe first, always. Any device with data on it is wiped or destroyed before it’s resold or recycled.
- Lose the disposal bill. Standard ITAD pickup is free, because we recover value by giving devices a second life through refurbishment.
Keep remote and distributed teams running
With agents working from home or from sites across the country, handling every device can feel overwhelming. The goal is minimum disruption: agents shouldn’t have to wrestle with returns, and you shouldn’t lose devices, time or data along the way.
Device lifecycle management: one flat rate per redeployment. We retrieve the machine, wipe it, re-image it and send it back out.
When you’re hiring, we ship at your pace. One machine or thousands: we ship single orders to individual customers, and we turn around large bulk orders on short notice, including hundreds of work-at-home kits at a time.
Refurbished Windows machines come with genuine, licensed Windows.
Make sustainability part of the hardware lifecycle
Customers, partners and investors want to see real action on environmental and social goals. How you retire hardware is one of the easiest places to show it.
- Reuse first. Refurbished first. Recycled responsibly only when it can’t be saved.
- A second life where it’s needed. In 2025, we delivered 35,000+ refurbished devices to nonprofit partners, who put them to work in underserved communities.
- Responsible recycling. What can’t be refurbished goes to U.S.‑based recyclers.
Look for partners whose green promises rest on a process you can see.
Future-proof it: policy, procurement and measurement
Making this work for the long haul starts with clear policies that IT, procurement and operations all share. Answer three questions in writing:
- Who approves a refresh?
- Who owns the asset inventory?
- What must every vendor show you?
Build reuse and retirement into your procurement plans, and look at the total lifecycle cost, not just the price tag. Then measure: how many devices were retired securely, how many went on to a second life, and what value came back. Review it regularly, because rules, tools and markets keep changing.
Your 3-step action plan
You don’t have to accept device churn as pure cost and risk. Every device swap can be a win for your budget, your security and the planet.
Step 1: Audit
Map where your old devices go today, find the risks, and spot the value you’re missing.
Step 2: Engage a partner
Choose one who handles retirement securely, keeps devices working, and gives you clear records.
Step 3: Pilot
Start small. Track what came back, how your data was protected and the environmental benefit, then grow the program.
For retired devices, plan on 30 to 45 days from when they arrive at our facility.
